The first episode of the series was released on November 1st and lasts ten minutes. The gripping series follows siblings who end up in a remote area while looking for their father, a famous journalist. As they work to solve the mystery of his disappearance, the show delves into their daily lives in the village, addressing issues such as cultural differences, family unity, and leadership. With its unique blend of entertainment and social commentary, the series is sure to captivate viewers.

Brian Bsacco Phiri, the series’ director and creator, intends to release the remaining episodes on mobile platforms where viewers can pay to watch. People are asked to purchase the rest of the series for MWK5000, and the first four episodes will be sent to them via Telegram.

The series’ production budget was at least MWK400,000, but they expect to make more than that. Brian stated that it was his fourth, and the previous ones were not released because they did not meet his standards.The actor and director began his career in the film industry in 2019, and it was his passion that has propelled him this far. When asked where he wants to go with his talent, he stated that he wants to go far beyond Malawi.

When asked who he looks up to in Malawian filmmaking, the director responded, “Those who have not yet started making movies, and I guess it would be impolite to expose them, but I admire their expertise from concept to export.”

Brian stated that when it comes to international filmmaking, he admires Tyler Perry because he is dedicated enough to write, act, and direct himself. The creative director believes the local film industry lacks story structure. The issue arises when it comes to telling compelling stories, but while the local film industry is growing on the technical side, story-telling is still required. He went on to say, “We have historical stories as Malawians, but we cannot tell them properly because we lack expertise in that area.”

Brian believes that The Last Fishing Boat is the best Malawian film ever made because no story in Malawi has ever been told in this way. The director said that those willing to sponsor the project will not waste their resources because his project is of the highest quality.
